Access to clean drinking water is a fundamental necessity and a key development lever for any community. Aware of this crucial issue, AIRSS, in partnership with several stakeholders, undertook a major rehabilitation and expansion project for the drinking water distribution network in Sédo Sébé in 2010.

This project, carried out over 24 months and financed with 100,600 € (approximately 66 million FCFA), significantly improved access to clean drinking water for over 7,500 residents of the village and surrounding areas.

Objectives and Impact of the Project

✅ Modernize hydraulic infrastructures by replacing outdated equipment from the 1970s, which became insufficient due to population growth.
✅ Ensure secure and continuous access to clean drinking water for all neighborhoods in the village, reducing health risks associated with water shortages and untreated water usage.
✅ Establish a sustainable water management system through the structuring and training of the Water Users Association (ASUFOR), ensuring efficient maintenance of the installations.

Work Accomplished

🔹 Rehabilitation and modernization of existing infrastructures:
✔ Complete renovation of the existing water tower to improve capacity and reliability.
✔ Construction of a new 30m³ water tower and a backup tank to optimize storage and distribution.
✔ Development of technical facilities (cabin and housing) for efficient network management.

🔹 Extension and strengthening of the distribution network:
✔ Installation of 2 km of new pipelines to extend access to clean drinking water to more households.
✔ Installation of strategically placed water fountains in the village to serve all residents.
✔ Installation of stands and water troughs to facilitate water access for domestic activities and livestock.

🔹 Optimization of the pumping system and water management:
✔ Acquisition and installation of modern lifting equipment to ensure regular supply.
✔ Establishment and training of ASUFOR to manage, maintain, and sustain the hydraulic infrastructure.

A Sustainable Impact for the Community

🚰 Improved access to clean drinking water for over 7,500 beneficiaries, reducing waterborne diseases and easing daily life for families.
👩‍👩‍👧‍👦 Easing the water-fetching burden on women and children, who previously had to travel long distances to collect water.
📈 Strengthening economic and agricultural activities, notably through the installation of livestock watering points and the development of agricultural initiatives requiring irrigation.

Towards Sustainable Management and Future Prospects

This project marks a significant step forward for Sédo Sébé, but challenges remain:
⚠️ Extension of the network to cover all new plots and expanding neighborhoods.
⚠️ Continuous improvement of equipment to ensure a reliable and sustainable service.
⚠️ Strengthening ASUFOR’s management capacities to ensure effective infrastructure monitoring.

AIRSS remains committed to improving access to clean drinking water and continues its efforts to support new hydraulic projects that meet the community’s needs.

📢 “Water is life. Thanks to this strategic investment, Sédo Sébé now has a modern infrastructure ensuring a healthier and more self-sufficient future.” 💧✨

GIVING ACCESS TO WATER MEANS GIVING LIFE, HEALTH, AND HOPE TO THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY.
